The Behavior Support Specialist is accountable, under the direct supervision of the Shift Supervisor, for the safety and wellbeing of the children and youth assigned to their care. This position is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the interventions and activities designed to promote growth and a stable environment as children and youth move through the program toward permanent placement. Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED. Must be 18 years of age. Certification in First Aid and CPR (May be obtained upon hire) Must participate in behavior management and physical restraint training once hired. Preferred Qualifications: Relevant experience working with children and/or adolescents. Bachelor’s degree in a human or social service-related field. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of residential service’s safety practices and protocols for children and adolescents. Flexibility and resourcefulness in dealing with new problems and changing circumstances. Ability to work with culturally diverse populations and work force. Ability to work flexible hours which vary according to client needs. To learn more please visit our website at: **********************Avondale House offers a generous benefit program that includes medical with an employer contribution, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, vacation, holiday, and sick leave.**Job Duties:**- Arrives at work on time each evening, ready to be available to provide back up support to the awake personnel.- Receives shift change report by participating in shift change meeting nightly.- Waking the residents at the designated time, assisting them in their grooming tasks, implementing a.m. programs as designated on each individual's IEP.- Insures the residents start their day by preparing breakfast and are well dressed and groomed.- Supervises self-administration of medication programs and recording data on these programs.- Periodic bed checks during the shift.- Completion of attendance record nightly.- Daily correspondence to appropriate persons and proper daily documentation as needed.- Participates in monthly house meeting as part of staff development requirements.- Attends all in-service training classes as scheduled.- Insures completion and entry into Reboot system of daily house documentation, to include but not limited to fire drill reports, daily progress notes, cleaning checklists, incident reports, medication administration, attendance records and other documents as required.- Works with staff throughout Avondale House to meet the needs of each client.**Job Requirements:**- High school diploma or equivalent.- At least 1 year of experience working in a residential setting, preferably with individuals with autism or related handicapping conditions.- CPR certified.- Patient, authoritative personality.- Valid Driver's License.**Physical Requirements:**- Ability to implement CPI, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.- Lifting up to 50 lbs.- Ability to stand, stoop, bend, lift, carry.**Background Check Required***The above statements are intended to describe the work being performed by others assigned to this position.
