No spoilers, but the fact that these people are pushed to be more than what they think they are is the saving grace of this ridiculous, audience-manipulating silliness.

One of us loved the ending, the other less so - but the film, overall, is strong and powered by great performances and a a real sense of dread.

Speak No Evil is a drama of unease that eventually must become a rural horror. For the first 90 minutes or so it is very good and, when the shotguns and the pitchforks do come out in the final reel, it is at least absurdly watchable.

Mackenzie Davis and Scoot McNairy are almost as impressive in roles that require considerably more subtlety, although each member of the small ensemble cast is a significant component to a genuinely unsettling film.

A rare psychological horror film that quietly chills to the bone without too much gore or creep chords, while cleverly relying on the implied and imagination to effectively do the heavy lifting

Speak No Evil is no better or worse than any other American thriller where the hardest future the characters face is therapy.

With a superb performance by James McAvoy and more for all four principals (and the kids) to do compared to its Dutch predecessor, this heavily "Americanized" film does enough to justify its own existence.

“Speak No Evil” isn’t tricky or even well-plotted. It’s simply a horror film with clunky “opportunities” that add up to nothing. Only the kid without the tongue has the right idea and he’s not saying anything.

2024’s Speak No Evil is a strong approach to its source material, but this is, for all of its compelling portrayals, an imitation of a film that made a lasting impact.

Don’t go in expecting a random string of shocking sequences to be the source of terror. The end result is the same, but it is a far more cerebral approach.
